How long is a typical session?

Therapy sessions are 45 minutes long.

It is important to be on time so that sessions can start promptly, thus making the most out of your appointment time.

Testing sessions vary depending on the work that is being done and the age and ability of the examinee.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not take any forms of insurance at Imagine Psychology Practice.

By not having insurance companies tell us how to do our jobs, we can provide you with the superior care and treatment we were trained to offer.

Insurance companies require a “hard diagnosis” for each client, and this follows a client for the rest of their life. As a result, this can impact the client’s ability to get life insurance and so on.

Having said this, we can assist you in reimbursement by creating a ‘superbill,’ which you can access through your Client Portal.

How do I make an appointment?

You can go on our website and request an intake appointment.

After you have been established as a patient, you can go into your client portal at any time and request an appointment anywhere you see a time available that suits your schedule.

Your request will be submitted, and you just need to wait for it to be approved by our staff.

Can I cancel an appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?

You have the right and ability to cancel appointments.

Standard face-to-face or telehealth therapy sessions must be cancelled with 24-hours’ advanced notice. Otherwise, you will be subject to a $100 late cancel/no-show fee.

Cancellations can be made via the Client Portal scheduler. “Extended” appointments, such as evaluations and assessments, require 48 hours’ advanced notice to cancel. If you cancel in less than the prescribed time, you will be subject to a $100 fee per scheduled hour.

And Parenting Coordination sessions require 48 hours’ advanced notice to cancel and are charged a $175 cancellation fee for each 45-minute missed appointment time scheduled.

All cancellations much be done via the Client Portal or by phone, not email or text.

What is parenting coordination?

Parenting Coordination is a non-adversarial dispute resolution process that is court-ordered or agreed upon by divorced and separated parents who have an ongoing pattern of high conflict and/or litigation about their children.

Parenting Coordination is designed to help parents implement and comply with court orders or parenting plans, to make timely decisions in a manner consistent with children’s developmental and psychological needs, to reduce the amount of damaging conflict between care-taking adults to which children are exposed, and to diminish the pattern of unnecessary re-litigation about child-related issues.

Parenting Coordination is generally not a confidential process and is sometimes court ordered.

What is parent training?

Behavioral parent training programs help parents learn skills that may seem like common sense parenting. However, many parents need careful teaching and support to learn parenting skills and use them consistently.

It can be very difficult for parents to learn behavior modification and implement an effective program just from books and websites on their own.

Parent training sessions may include the following: establishing house rules, structure and consistent routines; learning to praise appropriate behaviors (praising good behavior at least five times as often as criticizing bad behavior) and ignoring mild inappropriate behaviors (choosing your battles); using appropriate commands; using “when…then” contingencies (withdrawing rewards or privileges in response to inappropriate behavior); planning ahead and working with children in public places; time out from positive reinforcement (using time outs as a consequence for inappropriate behavior); daily charts and point/token systems with rewards and consequences; school-home note system for rewarding behavior at school and tracking homework.

Some families can learn these skills quickly in the course of 8–10 meetings, while other families require more time and energy.

Why do you want to work with parents and difficult children?

I believe that parenting is a life-long process that does not end when your child turns 18.

I want to help parents visualize the child they want to raise and the kind of parent they want to be – and then help them execute those visions.

We can all stand to work at being the best versions of ourselves. But we need to explore what that best version looks like before we can attempt to get there.

What is a free initial phone consultation?

It is a 15-minute phone call where we can chat about your needs and my skills. This allows us to see if we are a great fit. If so, we can discuss the process of therapy and schedule an appointment.

With what age range do you work?

I work with three years old and up. I really like the idea of “parenting across the life span.”

I start with parents with young children, even 3 years old, to parents dealing with their 23, 33, 43, or even 53-year-old boomerang children who are back living in their houses (or not living with them, but just being part of the family).

Once a parent, always a parent; and our connections with our children can always continue to grow, flourish, develop, and improve.

Do you work with people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions?

Definitely. One of my passions is to work with immigration and acculturation.

As an immigrant myself, raised in America with Latino parents, I have a personal connection to the challenges of navigating the balance between being a member of your birth culture and integrating into your adopted culture, as well as what those parents and child experience when they do not see eye-to-eye.

What can I expect in the first session?

We will review your history, and I will get to know more about you and your goals for therapy.

Then, as we move through therapy, we will formulate some goals that we can always come back to in order to evaluate our progress.

Do you offer video or phone sessions?

I do offer video sessions via a secure telehealth portal.

Can I send you emails in between sessions?

You sure can.

Therapeutic Email Exchange is $30 for one exchange (one client message and one provider reply) and $100 for Therapeutic Email Exchange Package of 4.

Is our work confidential?

It depends on the type of work we do together. If you are court ordered, the work is not confidential; and I must report my findings.

If you are coming for an evaluation or therapy, then our work is confidential. The exception to that rule is if you are thinking of hurting yourself or someone else or if there is child or elder abuse going on. Then, I am a mandated reporter and have to contact the appropriate authorities.

What is your educational background?

I have a doctorate in clinical psychology. I am a Florida licensed clinical psychologist.

Do you prescribe medications?

I do not.

Do I have to lie on a couch?

You are more than welcome to recline on my couch, but it is certainly not required.

I want you to feel comfortable. Come in, enjoy a coffee. Relax. And let’s talk.
